WhatsApp Desktop updated with new features

  • WhatsApp was officially made available for Windows desktops under the name WhatsApp Web earlier last year. All major desktop browsers were supported and the platform’s user interface was built to be based on the default smartphone style.
  • The company has been improving its desktop version with bug fixes and new features ever since.
  • As WhatsApp for Windows is essentially a web wrapper for WhatsApp Web, the update should come automatically. If not, browse to C:\Windows\Users\* username * \AppData\Local\WhatsApp and run Update.exe.
  • If you want to download WhatsApp for Windows, you can get it from this link.
  • Today, the company updated the web wrapper to version 0.2.196.0, bringing along a number of new features. The update brings:
  1. New emoji
  2. The ability to browse shared images.
  3. A button to select and share animated gifs.
  4. Search within chat.
  5. UI improvements.
  • According to a report by Softpedia, the new update also includes a button to select and share animated GIFs.
  • Users will be required to manually download the latest version of WhatsApp Desktop through the Store as the desktop version doesn’t work on an auto-update engine.
